My Favourite Drug Store Foundation

    February 23, 2018

I started this blog to talk about my fitness and food journey, but along the way I had many people tell me I should include info on beauty and cosmetics. I’m a cosmetics collector, and I’ve come to learn a thing or two about beauty products and skin care over the last couple decades.

My experience and expertise became clear when my 22-year-old step-daughter asked for my help hooking her up with some beauty products for her birthday present. I WAS ELATED to help her!

The product she wanted most help with? Foundation, of course.

I am a foundation hoarder (compared to most people I know). My collection includes an array of drug store and luxury brands. Here’s a a few in my current collection:

    • Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation¬†
    • Lise Watier Teint Velours
    • Make Up Forever Ultra HD
    • Wet n’ Wild Photo Focus
    • Rimmel Lasting Finish
    • The Ordinary Coverage Foundation
    • Estee Lauder Double Wear
    • Revlon Colour Stay

I’ve paid $8 – $80 for foundations. I tried Canada’s #1 selling foundation (Estee Lauder Double Wear), and the wildly popular Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation. But, when my step-daughter asked me for my advice on which foundation she should look at, I didn’t hesitate to tell her my current favourite – the Maybelline Matte and Poreless Foundation.

I first tried this foundation when I saw a blogger review on YouTube. Review after review, the beauty community seemed to rave about this drugstore fab find.

I went to my local London Drugs one day to test it and try and colour match it. Low and behold, it was on sale for about $7. My jaw hit the floor. I promptly bought three colours closest to my skin tone figuring I couldn’t go wrong at $7 each.

I opted for the normal to oily version because I can get a bit oily around my nose, and this area is the first for foundation to slide or rub off.

It’s medium to full coverage, doesn’t oxidize too dramatically on my skin (slightly though), blends easily and smoothly with both a buffing brush and a beauty blender, and wears well all day long. I can come home from a 12 hour day in meetings, and it can still look almost untouched. Also, I have some pigmentation and acne scaring on my chin, and it covers the marks really well. I’ll sometimes touch them up with a little bit of Maybelline Fit Me concealer when my skin is looking more red than usual, but for the most part I get quite a bit of coverage with little product.

London Drugs will often have this foundation on sale, but I’ve also ordered it through for that $7 price point. I stock up when I catch it on sale, and currently have four bottles to make sure I don’t run out!

Anyhow – I love many of my foundations, but I have a special place on my face for the Maybelline Matte and Poreless. Give it a try, and let me know what you think!

    Rawk on,
